Imagine, the fragranced garden rose of your parent’s house, the smell after the rain in a summer forest, a bouquet of flowers on a Sunday morning, the smell of hay in the sunny countryside... Memories are most emotional when triggered by scent. Do you have a relaxing memory of nature that you would like to bring into your home? Come and join Klara. Believe it or not, not all the roses smell the same! The spectrum of rose aromas it’s quite large: it varies from delicious and delightful to, honestly, quite stinky. Also there are many roses that smell green, fresh, honey, metallic, mossy, fruity, tea like… Most people feel an urge to get a whiff when they see roses, but not many know what are the responsible ingredients for this seductive scent. Let’s examine together what exactly gives roses their distinct aroma and create the rose blends!
Blend you own perfume
During the workshop you will create and develop your unique fragrance. You will be introduced to, and learn to be familiar with 20 different aroma-molecules. You will learn how they smell and to which olfactory family they belong to. Once we are familiar with the molecules, and how to describe them, you will acquire information on the basics of how to design and mix scent. The purpose is to create and develop your unique fragrance, each participant will compose one fragrance.
Sense of Smell
In this 1-day workshop, participants will get an introduction about smell, how it works, what’s been done in the olfactory art realm until the moment, and will learn how to obtain an extract from an organic material. Participants will also be able to take a sample of the distilled scent home.
An Exploratory Scent Walk is a guided tour through a particular space in the urban landscape. The walk involves a group exploration of the urban smell scapes following our nose. The sensorial perceptions are extended from an individual realm to a shared interpretation of the space.
Sniffing the extra-terrestial
Sniffing the extraterrestrial is an experimental scent workshop involving the creation of different fragrances based on the potential speculation of the existing aromas in extraterrestrial places and the creatures that inhabit those worlds. Grey, Arcturian, Sirians and Nordic aliens, little green men and Flatwwod monsters and reptilians. How do all these extraterrestial creatures smell like?
Olfactory artist Klara Ravat investigates with you how human interaction changes after you have swapped body odours with another person. By doing this, she hopes to get an insight in how big of a part your unique smell is of your identity. If you were to suddenly smell like someone else, would you still really be you? Would people still behave the same way towards you? Next to this experiment Klara gives a general introduction about the distilling of smells in the Lab.
