PERFUME WEEKEND
2-DAY INTENSIVE

Smell Lab x Chiara Antoniacomi

The Smell Lab, Berlin, and Chiara Antoniacomi join forces one more time (after the successful and super insightful Leather & Gourmand fragrance workshop) to present a

2-day perfume course during spring, in Berlin!

Are you a perfume lover and have always wanted to get hands-on and blend your own creations? Are you simply interested in learning more about the process of mixing scents? Or are you already hands-on into blending and would like to deepen your knowledge about history, market, and materials?

This is your chance to have a deep dive into perfume making!

During this 2-day course, we will learn all about 4 types of fragrances: Chypre, Fougère, Florals, and Woods. We will review from history to perfumes out in the market, from the evaluation of materials to formulation. All days in our program have plenty of Open Lab hours for you to practice and experiment with our perfume library. We would like you to start creating your own formulations and compositions right from the beginning.

The program suits perfectly beginners and already started independent perfumers.

The weekend will culminate with an evaluation evening where we will review your creations and give you tips on how to master them.

Program

DAY 1:  HELLO + CHYPRE + FOUGÈRE + GUIDED OPEN LAB

10 am - 7 pm

We are so looking forward to meeting you and starting our beautiful fragrant journey together! Chiara and Klara will be receiving you at the cozy Smell Lab studio in Prenzlauer Berg, with freshly made coffee, tea, juice, and croissants! While we snack and chat we will get to know each other and introduce you to the program.

Right after, we start with the Chypre & Fougère fragrance unit taught by Chiara. Why not get warm right from the start?

Rooted in the location of the oldest perfume factory in the Mediterranean, and the birthplace of Aphrodite, Chypre borrows the name of the astonishing Island of Cypre. Is in this place where the first traces of distillation are found. Analysis of these apparatus reveals traces of the raw materials used in Chypre accord.

And, because a complete fragrance collection should never exist without Fougère, we will dive into this aromatic family which traces back to earlier than 1882. Born with the creation of Fougère Royale by the Houbigant perfumery, thanks to perfumer Paul Parquet, Fougère tackles many possibilities and, I must confess, brings me a desire to subvert it.

In the afternoon Klara will teach the basics of perfume blending, how to work at the Smell Lab, and we will start exercising our Chypre & Fougère standard accords. Once we mastered the standards, you go and create your own variations with Klara's expertise support.

DAY 2: WOODS AND FLORALS  + GUIDED OPEN LAB

10:30 am - 7 pm

We meet at the Smell Lab studio, have a coffee, and start the second day of the class conducted by Chiara. She will guide us through the history of the Woods and Florals accord and its technical blending. We will smell some current perfumes in the market, analyze them, we will also evaluate the raw materials.

In the afternoon we have time with Klara to experiment and make our own creations. There is such a large variety of woods and florals, which one will you go for? We encourage creativity, so maybe you come up with a new sort?

We end the extraordinary weekend with some time to share our own new creations and get feedback from the group at large.

We do not issue refunds for this workshop.

About Our Policy:

Our workshops require a great deal of pre-planning, including ordering supplies and tools, making commitments to pay our instructors. When students ask to cancel or reschedule at the last minute, we lose money. As a small organization, we are unable to absorb these costs and still keep our class prices low. In fairness to all of our customers, we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend.
